The statement, "You never get a second chance to make a first impression." is especially true when it comes to your resume. According to Wendy Enelow and Louise Kursmark, authors of Modernize Your Resume, "In a tough job market, you need to do everything you can to shine brighter that your competition. "Enelow and Kursmark give six hallmarks that can make your resume stand above the rest:

• It should be laser focused to your job targets.
• Make it rich with the right keywords that resonate with employers.
• Be specific in describing achievements rather than general capabilities.
• Your resume should be contemporary and professional in appearance while being visually distinctive.
• Link your resume to your email, online profiles, websites, and social media.

The authors also emphasize that content, form, and design are three core elements to your resume. You need to hook your readers with the design and reel them in with powerful, interesting, and relevant content.

Davis College teaches students to create resumes using these hallmarks as well as utilizing effective job search strategies and compelling interviewing skills when embarking on their careers.

According to the Career Education Colleges and Universities (CECU) association website, a gap exists between unemployed Americans and unfilled jobs because prospective employees are simply not "job-ready". The organization states that millions of prospective employees are simply not able to bridge the skills gap without appropriate career education and training.

CECU claims that with President-elect Donald Trump's commitment to private enterprise, America will need management and operations leaders to ensure commercial success at all levels.

Davis College is poised to respond to this need by offering an associate degree in business management. Graduates from the program are qualified for management positions in a variety of organizations. They posses the skills necessary for planning, organizing, directing, and controlling activities that lead to the effective completion of organizational goals.

Courses include Business Law, Economics, International Business, and Management Principles. An externship experience is also part of the program.

Davis College is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association.

With the popularity of HGTV shows Fixer Upper, Flip or Flop, and Rehab Addict, among others, it's not surprising that interior design as a career choice is on the rise. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, 1620 annual interior design job openings are expected through 2024.

Davis College's interior design associate degree arms you with the marketable skills to enter this rewarding career. Interiors designers do more than just pick out colors and fabrics for a room. They must be knowledgeable in space planning, lighting, materials, and finishes. In addition, drafting and CAD skills are required for most interior design positions. Knowing the history of interior design is a plus, too.

It all begins with a solid design foundation. First-year interior design students learn the elements and principles of design, color theory, drawing and rendering, and drafting. Mastery of these skills allows Davis students to succeed in their second-year courses which include residential design and commercial design. Classes in interior design history provide students with a context for style and taste.

The Davis College interior design associate degree also gives students a solid business foundation that has allowed some graduates to start their own interior design businesses.
